A strategist came into my journalism class and explained how he fueled a conspiracy that Chris Paul had a secret twin. I decided I wanted to think like that for a living. I just didn't know what it was called yet. So I took some detours first: strategy internships, an account job, portfolio school, and finally, creative.

Bad habits:

  • spending a really long time finding the perfect word

  • getting a self-appointed PhD in whatever topic the brief is on

  • being unreasonably excited about ideas that sound stupid until they don't

  • trying to convince people that the em dash was a useful punctuation tool BEFORE AI RUINED IT.
